Screen Icons gather at CRC Speedshow

Some of the great cars of New Zealand and world movie history are all set to be celebrated and enjoyed by the public at this year's CRC Speedshow event at the ASB Showgrounds over the weekend of July 22 and July 23.
Cars have always been stars in movies - who can forget the Bond cars, the Mad Max 'Interceptor', the De Lorean time machine, Herbie or our own mini in Goodbye Pork Pie!
To celebrate the big screen history of the automobile, CRC Speedshow will have a huge area dedicated to the vehicles at this year’s show. Already lined up are a '69 Dodge Charger – General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard; the KITT Trans Am from KMustang night Rider, the Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds, the Ford Falcon XBGT Interceptor from Mad Max (pictured below) , an Auburn Boat Tail from Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom, the scary 1958 Plymouth Fury from Christine, a Herbie VW Beetle, the Indian Streamliner from The World’s Fastest Indian; a Jurassic Park Ford Explorer; a '32 Deuce Coupe from American Graffiti, a '66 Ford Thunderbird convertible from Thelma & Louise and of course a mini from our own Goodbye Pork Pie blockbuster! (also pictured below).
It’s just one of a number of huge attractions at this year's show, which will include as always a massive selection of road cars, race cars, hot rods and live action. The collection of iconic cars from the big screen and small screen is one that organiser Ross Prevette is sure will appeal to all visitors at the show.
"Everyone has a favourite movie car or a car from a TV series they watched when they were kids," he said. "We have been wanting to do a specific area for these cars for quite a few years now and it's great that 2018 will see that display pieced together for the first time at the show.
“There are some fantastic and iconic machines amongst those we have so far secured and obviously there are quite a few more still to come. It’s definitely one part of the show everyone is going to come and have a look, and probably a second look at, and of course we reckon it’s going to be a very popular area for people to take selfies with their all-time favourite cars."
This year's spectacular CRC Speedshow opens its doors at the ASB Showgrounds over the weekend of July 21 and 22.
