The ninth edition of CRC Speedshow will feature a new show-within-the-show with the announcement of the Teng Tools Grand National Rod and Custom Show.

The evolution of the hugely successful hot rod and custom car hall that’s formed a key part of the past three CRC Speedshows into the Grand National Rod and Custom Show comes thanks to the support of hot rod and custom vehicle enthusiasts, clubs and associations around the country.

“The Teng Tools Grand National Rod and Custom Show is the best of the best, the very finest hot rods and custom cars that you can see in New Zealand,” says CRC Speedshow director Ross Prevette. “The new show will feature special invitation and trophy-winning hot rods and street machines from the best national and provincial hot rod and custom shows around New Zealand.”

The new format Teng Tools Grand National Rod and Custom Show runs as part of CRC Speedshow when it takes place at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland over the weekend of 18 and 19 July this year.

Prevette took ownership of New Zealand’s largest automotive, motorcycle and motorsport expo in 2012, the year that the New Zealand Hot Rod Association held their 50th anniversary National Hot Rod Show at CRC Speedshow.

“It was evident from show visitors that they enjoyed the new dimension to the wider CRC Speedshow displays, action and activities that a custom vehicle show provided. From there, we developed the Castrol EDGE / Teng Tools Custom Show which also proved popular for the past two years.

“But things don’t stay the same for long when you’re continually striving to keep CRC Speedshow fresh and attractive each and every year for show visitors to enjoy.

“The idea of a grand national-style hot rod and custom show gained further momentum with several plugs from respected media outlets like New Zealand Petrolhead, New Zealand Rodder and New Zealand Hot Rod magazines.

“So we got talking with organisers of key events such as the New Zealand Hot Rod Association (NZHRA) National Show, Beach Hop, Pre ’49s, Muscle Car Madness, Americarna and the Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival and they all support the idea of a grand national show to celebrate the incredibly high level of custom vehicle fabrication and workmanship in New Zealand,” Prevette says.

“It’s not designed to replace or compete with existing shows and maintains the all-inclusive nature of the previous Castrol EDGE / Teng Tools Custom Show where all owners of top show quality cars are welcome, whether or not they are members of the NZHRA , the NZ National Street Rod Association or any car club.”

Entry will be predominately by invitation, says Prevette. “However if you own a top quality hot rod or street machine – perhaps a new build that hasn’t been shown before or one you genuinely believe is the best of its type in the country – we welcome you making contact with our show co-ordinator Kate Gordon-Smith. We also welcome owners of unfinished projects and custom motorcycles to create their own unique and popular displays to create an incredible spectacle of custom car culture in New Zealand.”
