A number of New Zealand’s motorsport stars, including V8 racing legend Greg Murphy, are being recognised for their world-class efforts in a new display at this year’s CRC Speedshow dubbed the New Zealand Legends of Speed. Each ‘legend’ will be represented by a significant race car or bike from their career at the 20-21 July running of CRC Speedshow in Auckland. Greg Murphy fans will have a unique opportunity to see the fully-restored K-Mart Holden Commodore in which he won the 2003 Bathurst 1000 race after qualifying with his record-breaking ‘lap of the gods’. New for 2013, CRC Speedshow is introducing a free seminar series covering a range of topics of interest to automotive and motorsport enthusiasts. A new custom and classic car show running as part of July’s CRC Speedshow has gained the support of well-known automotive and industrial tool brand Teng Tools. The 50th anniversary of supercar manufacturer Lamborghini is being celebrated at July’s CRC Speedshow with at least six of the exotic vehicles creating a special display for Kiwi Lamborghini fans. The Italian marque was first established in May 1963 and, this year, a year-long celebration commences in Italy on 7 May and includes hundreds of vintage and modern-day Lamborghinis parading over 1,200 km of Italian roads. A 3.5-metre long custom-built chopper adorned with 24 carat gold plating is the first star attraction to be confirmed for the next CRC Speedshow taking place at the ASB Showgrounds in 2013. Next year’s edition of CRC Speedshow might still be ten months away, but new owners Ross and Brenda Prevette are drawing on their excellent contacts in the US to start lining up star attractions for the show scheduled for 20 and 21 July.
