The Offroad Racing Association of New Zealand site at CRC Speedshow will feature one of the best prepared race cars in the sport. James Buchanan’s Suzuki-powered Cougar Evo carried him to outright victory in the toughest endurance race in New Zealand, the 2012 Frontline Projects Woodhill 100, at the beginning of June. The single-seater features a unique Suzuki 1.6-litre engine with substantial engine block strengthening designed and machined by James’ company, Bu-Mac engineering, in West Auckland. The car was developed for this season with an engine specification that tops 200 bhp, enabling James to take on more powerful but heavier V8 and turbo cars on an equal footing thanks to his car’s agility and weight distribution. In fact the car is a rolling showcase for the company, with many bespoke mounting brackets and other parts CAD designed and CNC milled.
Also on display will be one of the sport’s new Kiwitrucks, a youth ‘feeder’ category that has full championship status this year and is proving hugely popular with 10-15 year old boys and girls keen to follow dad or mum into offroad racing.
The stand will also feature non-stop offroad racing action from New Zealand and overseas displayed on a 50 inch TV.
